SHERI JOHN

As a multi-talented artist, Sheri John is leading a new era of game changers. One of the few artists who can capture an old- school vibe and make it feel refreshingly new. Sherika Johnson was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. The soulful singer found her love for music at the age of 3, before transposing her name to her current alias Sheri John. Sheri grew up surrounded by talented individuals with a love for music. Sheri found a passion for singing and began writing her own music by age 16.

Sheri pulls her inspiration from some of the best heavy weights in Music such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey; however, she credits great artist/Song-Writers like Andrea Martin, Diane Warren, James Fauntleroy and Ester Dean, for their ability to create stories through their lyrics. Sheri John worked on her craft and studied Music at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. Sheri’s drive to make it in the music business lead to a few opportunities on her 16th birthday. Sheri competed in the Essence Magazine Grammy Music Competition for High School students in the Tri-State area. The competition granted the winner a chance to go to the Grammys to present an award. Though Sheri was not the victor, in which she refers to this memory as her ‘Bitter 16’, the experience alone was the pivotal moment that heightened Sheri’s enthusiasm to succeed in the industry.

The day before the Essence competition Sheri had the opportunity to meet World-Renowned Film Director and Pioneer, Tyler Perry. At that time Perry was debuting his stage play “I Know I’ve Been Changed” at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, when he told Sheri personally that he would

have taken her with him on the road to Florida the next day if only she was turning 18, after she sang for him backstage accompanied by her father.

Sheri began to take her music career to higher heights and performed in national showcases, some curated by Activist Maria Davis. Sheri experienced her first tour by performing in a show entitled ‘New York Meets Atlanta Tour’. The tour allowed underground artists from New York and Atlanta to come together to showcase their musical talents. Sheri’s biggest moment as an unsigned artist came when she was given an opportunity to perform as an opening act for R&B singer Ginuwine.

Sheri continued her mission to travel and performed in different cities and was selected by the Dean’s List touring company to perform and tour Colleges and Universities across the United States. Sheri jump-started her songwriting/recording career with he single release of "Love Garden", an airy production that gives Sheri’s dynamic voice space to really shine. A few of Sheri's songs were also selected and placed in a few short films. One of her featured songs to a web series went on to be accepted by the Hip Hop Film Festival.
